Kilcolgan castle.Kilcolgan castle can be found within the town of Kilcolgan in county Galway, within the republic of Ireland. The man credited with the castles’ construction is one Christopher St George, who also erected the nearby Tyrone house. Christopher St George retired to Kilcolgan after handing over Tyrone house to his son. The construction which stands as Kilcolgan house today was completed in the year 1801 however it was built upon and incorporates the materials of a much older medieval structure. Kilcolgan features many gothic revival elements such as crenellations, paired and pointed openings and pinnacles. Its’ timber door is one of its most prominent features which harks of a bygone era.
